How to Crochet a Daisy Flower and An Octagon Daisy Motif

Daisy flowers are simple to make. On the internet you can get many patterns to make these flowers, today I will share the easiest of all.

The daisy flower pattern further will be used to make an octagon motif. 

Recommendation

For making the flower use white and yellow coloured cotton thread that is fine, recommended is 2ply doily thread. The flowers hook up with very little yarn, idle for stash yarn projects.

Thicker thread to be used to make the daisy octagon motif. The selection of yarn is an individual choice.

Materials list required for making the Daisy Flowers

For the flower

Cotton threads yellow and white 2ply

Steel Hook size 1.0 mm 

For the Motif

Cotton threads 3ply

Steel Hook size 1.5 mm

Scissors

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Stitch guide and Special stitch instructions

sl st = Slip Stitch

sc = Single Crochet

ch = Chain

dc = Double Crochet

dtr = Double Treble Crochet

* = Repeat the instructions from this point

Special Stitches

Small Picots – chain3 slip stitch in the sc made

Picots three together – in the sc made ch 3, slip stitch in the 3rd ch away from the hook, repeat two more times, after the third picot slip stitch in the sc.

Instruction for making the Daisy flower and the Octagon Daisy Motif

For the Daisy Flower

Make a magic ring or circle using the yellow colour yarn.

Round 1

Start with a ch3 turning chain; consider the ch3 as a working dc. In the make ring make 15 dc, close the round with an sl st. Total 16dc

Round 2

Change the colour to white, start with ch 9, sl st in the dc of the previous round. Continue for each of the dc, end of the round1 there will be 16 numbers of the 9chain petals.

Cut the threads. The daisy flower is complete.

For the Octagon Daisy Motif

Make a magic ring or circle using the 3ply self-coloured thread.

Round 1

Start with a ch3 turning chain; consider the ch3 as a working dc. In the make ring make 15 dc, close the round with an sl st. Total 16 dc

Round 2

Start the round by making ch 9, sl st in the dc of the previous round1. Continue for each of the dc. To close the round ch 5, 1 dtr.

Round 3

Ch 3, sl st in the centre of the ch9 petals of round 2.Repeat for each of the ch 9, petals.

Round 4

From the point of the closing of the round 3 make a ch-3 turning chain consider as dc, in the ch3 space of previous round make dc 3,ch3, in next 2 (ch3 spaces )crochet dc 7, For closing hook dc 3 in the chain space, sl st to close.

Round 5

Start the round by making the small picot, sc in each of the dc 3 of the previous round4 in * 3 chain space (1 ch, 1sc, picots three together, sl st in the sc, ch1), Continue sc in the dc 4 of the previous round, small picot 1, 3 dc, Repeat * from here, sl st to close.

Cut the loose ends. 

Blocking the Octagon Daisy Motif 

For the 3ply yarn, skip the blocking. For good finishing, simple steam ironing can help straighten the motif. If you wish to block the motif, in a blow add some water, to it add half a spoon of starch, deep the motif and gently squeeze the extra water without damaging the motif, sin dry.
